Box Score The Columbia International University women's soccer team returned to the field on Saturday looking to run their winning streak to two games. The Rams did just that as they controlled the game from the start. The Rams would go on to win 3-1, with the win the Rams move to 4-2-1, while the Cavaliers of Montreat College fall to 2-7.
Through the first 24 minutes of the game the Rams controlled the play as they had three shots and one corner kick compared to the one shot for the Cavaliers. At the 24:19 mark the Rams would get on the board as Alanna Battermann was able to take a sharp angle shot that found the back of the net giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. The Rams would continue to control the pace of the game as over the next 18 minutes the Rams took four shots and two corners. Angel Simpson took the corner for the Rams and was able to find Mandi Shumate in the box, who was able to redirect the pass into the net. The goal was the first of the year for Shumate and gave the Rams a 2-0 lead. The Rams would take the lead into the half.
The Cavaliers would take the first shot of the second half, but that attempt went high. After that shot the Rams took over once again and were awarded for their efforts when Angela McMaster found Sotiria Tsilionis in the box and Tsilionis found the back of the net for a commanding 3-0 Rams lead. The Rams would continue to control the game, but at 78:07 the Cavaliers cut into the Rams lead as Alanna Castaneda scored for the Cavaliers. As the clock hit zeroes the Rams walked off the field with a 3-1 victory over the Cavaliers.
The Rams offense was in sync today as they had 17 shots with 11 being on goal...Battermann, Shumate, and Tsilionis were the goal scorers for the Rams...Tsilionis lead the Rams with four shots, while three other Rams had three shots...The Rams had five corner kicks...Sam Wammock had two saves in goal...Alanna Castaneda scored the lone goal for the Cavaliers.
"Coming in on a hot day is always tough, but I'm really proud of how hard the girls worked together tonight. The things we focused on this week at practice, they came out and executed well in the game tonight," said Coach Kara Farnsworth.
The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Toccoa Falls College at 5 p.m.
