LAKE WALES, Fla. — CIU women 's soccer's NCCAA South Region championship match came to a heartbreaking end Friday afternoon as the Rams fell 2–1 to Warner in the final minutes of regulation.
CIU (13-6-1) struck first in the 43rd minute when freshman forward
Lauren Jackson finished a setup from
Lily Jackson, giving the Rams early momentum after sustained pressure in the attacking third. CIU out-shot Warner 18–13 and put 10 shots on frame, repeatedly challenging the opposing goalkeeper throughout the match.
The Rams entered halftime tied 1–1 after conceding a penalty kick late in the first half. Despite the setback, CIU continued to generate chances after the break.
Lohrane Boaventura led the offense with six shots, three on goal, while
Lily Jackson,
Marisa Dill,
Charlotte Craver, and
Sydney Thoman each produced dangerous efforts.
In goal,
Hailey Resetar delivered five saves, including several key stops that kept CIU level deep into the second half.
The match turned in the 89th minute when a second penalty was awarded to Warner, putting the Rams behind with little time remaining. CIU pushed forward in the final moments but was unable to find the equalizer.
With the result, CIU's 2025 journey comes to a close after a strong 13-win campaign highlighted by a 9–3–1 record in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
