Box Score After having over a week off the Columbia International University women's soccer team came out sharp and used their rest to race past the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales- Charlotte. The Rams won 3-0 as they improved to 2-1-1, while the Wildcats drop to 1-4.
It didn't take the Rams long to score their first goal as Sotiria Tsilionis was able to take the pass from Janie Holland and find the back of the net to give the Rams a 1-0 lead only 1:36 into the game. After that goal neither team was able to get a shot off, until the Wildcats would take a shot that was saved by Anna Mershon. At the 15:21 mark the Rams would pick up their second goal of the game. After some crisp passing between Taylor Endicott and Alanna Battermann they were able to find Janie Holland on the other side of the goal mouth and she was able to chip the ball in to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. The Rams would finish the half with nine shots from a number of players, but they would go into the half with a 2-0 lead.
The Rams came out firing on all cylinders in the second half just as they did in the first half. The Rams were able to get a lot of shots off and spent a good majority of the time on the Wildcats side of the field. The Rams were able to pick up their third and final goal of the game when Holland collected the ball after the keeper couldn't control the ball from a Naomi Reed shot. As the horn sounded the Rams were victorious and won by a final score of 3-0.
The Rams offense was on fire tonight as they had 19 shots with 12 being on goal...Holland led the Rams with two goals and an assist...Tsilionis had the other goal for the Rams...Endicott and Battermann each had an assist for the Rams...Mershon picked up her second win of the year and both wins have been shutouts...The Wildcats Lana Truese had two shots.
Coach Kara Farnsworth had this to say on the game, "It was great to be at home after starting our season on the road. We had some new things that we wanted to work on tonight and the girls came out and executed them well."
The Rams will have over a week off before their next game. The Rams will home for their next game on September 17 as they will face USC-Beaufort at 5 p.m. to be followed by the men's game. Come out and support your Rams!!
