Box Score The Columbia International women's soccer team returned to play at home for the first time in over two weeks. Today was a very special day for the team as the Esther Edwards, Taylor Endicott, Meghann Esquinaldo, Naomi Reed, and Mandi Shumate were all honored as seniors. The Rams had lost to the Hawks earlier in the year by a score of 3-0, but this game was a much different outcome as the two teams battled for 110 minutes. The score would remain the same as when the game started, 0-0. With the tie the Rams move to 5-6-3, while the Hawks move to 8-6-2.
Over the first twenty-minutes neither team was able to gain an attacking edge. The Hawks were the first team to fire off a shots, but Sam Wammock was there to make the save. The Rams were able to get two shots off in the twenty-fourth minute as Angela McMaster and Janai McMaster took shots. In the thirty-fifth minute the Hawks had a golden opportunity to score the first goal of the game as they were awarded a penalty kick. The Hawks player stepped to the line, as she struck the ball Wammock was there to make a huge save and keep the game scoreless. The teams would go into the half scoreless.
The second was an attacking half as each team was able to get numerous good looks on goal, but the goalies were huge for their teams tonight. No matter what came towards the goal the goalies were there to make the save. The Rams would have five shots in the half, but the teams would head to overtime.
Neither team was able to gain an edge in the first overtime so we would go to a second overtime. The Hawks were able to get a couple shots off, but none would find the back of the net. The Rams would have the last chance to win the game as Alanna Battermann got a shot off, but once again the Hawks goalie was there to make the save. After, 110 minutes the teams would settle for a 0-0 tie.
The Rams had nine shots in the game, with five being on goal...Wammock was key for the Rams tonight as she had seven saves...Five different Rams had a shot on goal.
The Rams will be back in action on Thursday as they host Bob Jones University at 5 p.m.
