WILMORE, Ky. — CIU women's track and field closed the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with two national champions, multiple All-American performances and a sixth-place finish out of 21 teams Friday at Asbury University.
Coral Curry delivered one of the top performances of the meet for the Rams, capturing a national championship in the hammer throw with a winning mark of 46.42 meters.
Arion Jefferson added another national title for CIU on the track, winning the women's 200-meter dash in 25.58 while also earning All-American honors as the national runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 57.64.
Michaela Oglesby added points in the women's 100-meter hurdles, placing sixth in 15.44 after earning All-American honors earlier in the meet with her third-place finish in the heptathlon.
Elizabeth Gustafson scored in the 400 meters, finishing seventh in 1:01.34.
In the field events, Adelyn Swogger placed fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.75 meters, Curry added points in the shot put with a sixth-place finish at 11.27 meters, and Lydia Gustafson scored in the triple jump with a seventh-place leap of 10.13 meters.
CIU's relay teams also contributed to the team total. The 4x100-meter relay team of Zyra Spann, Michaela Oglesby, Elizabeth Gustafson and Jefferson placed fourth in 49.43, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Jefferson, Oglesby, Morgan Hartman and Gustafson finished fifth in 4:11.46.
Combined with strong performances from the opening two days, including Oglesby's All-American finish in the heptathlon, the Rams secured a sixth-place team finish.
CIU will next compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 20-22 in Asheville, N.C.
