DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — CIU women's track & field team closed out competition Saturday at Emory's Thrills in the Hills with multiple Appalachian Athletic Conference and NCCAA qualifying performances.
Arion Jefferson led the Rams on the track with an AAC and NCCAA qualifying time of 12.90 in the 100 meters, while Zyra Spann added a top-15 finish at 13.22. Jefferson also recorded an AAC and NCCAA qualifying mark of 59.67 in the 400 meters, while Elizabeth Gustafson posted an AAC qualifying time of 1:02.21.
In the 800 meters, Gustafson led CIU with a time of 2:31.62, followed by Morgan Hartman at 2:34.90 and Jordan Wray at 2:52.23. Hartman (5:45.44) and Wray (5:55.11) also competed in the 1500 meters.
In the field events, Jerchel Geathers-Washington recorded an AAC qualifying mark of 10.83 meters in the shot put, while Coral Curry added a throw of 10.35 meters to also meet the AAC standard.
Curry continued her strong meet in the discus with an AAC qualifying throw of 33.38 meters, while Geathers-Washington posted a mark of 29.37 meters.
CIU returns to action next weekend at the Electric City Invite in Anderson, S.C.
