Michaela Oglesby runs the runaway for the long jump

Oglesby, Rimmer earn AAC titles as CIU Women sit fifth through two days

MONTREAT, N.C. — CIU women's track & field team sits fifth in the team standings after two days of competition at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, highlighted by AAC championships from Michaela Oglesby in the heptathlon and Caroline Rimmer in the pole vault.

Oglesby captured the AAC heptathlon title to earn conference champion honors, posting the top overall score in the seven-event competition. Her championship effort included first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (15.17) and high jump (1.50m), runner-up finishes in the 200 meters (27.04) and 800 meters (2:43.18), third in the javelin (23.24m), fifth in the long jump (4.54m), and sixth in the shot put (7.54m).

Rimmer also claimed conference champion honors in the pole vault, clearing 3.08 meters to win the event, while Adelyn Swogger earned All-Conference honors with a second-place finish at 2.78 meters.

Arion Jefferson earned All-Conference honors with a runner-up finish in the 400 meters, crossing in 58.02. Jefferson also recorded a time of 12.70 in the 100 meters, while Elizabeth Gustafson posted a time of 1:01.35 in the 400 meters.

In the field events, Coral Curry earned All-Conference honors with a second-place finish in the hammer throw at 51.09 meters. The mark also met the NAIA "B" standard to qualify Curry for the NAIA Outdoor Championships. Jerchel Geathers-Washington added an eighth-place finish in the hammer at 40.04 meters.

Lydia Gustafson also earned All-Conference honors with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters. She later added a long jump mark of 4.68 meters.

In the throws, Bethany Moore recorded a javelin throw of 28.91 meters, while Geathers-Washington posted a personal-best mark of 11.20 meters in the shot put. Curry added a throw of 10.33 meters in the same event.

The Rams also competed in relay action, finishing eighth in the 4x100 relay with Elizabeth Gustafson, Oglesby, Swogger and Jefferson combining for a time of 51.21. CIU's 4x800 relay team of Gustafson, Morgan Hartman, Jordan Wray and Lillian Jackson placed sixth in 10:18.09.

CIU concludes the AAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday, April 25.
