Hunter McCaskill leaps in the long jump

CIU men earn multiple All-Americans through first two days of NCCAA Outdoor Championships

WILMORE, Ky. — CIU men's track and field produced multiple All-American performances and scoring finishes through the first two days of the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Asbury University.

Hunter McCaskill led the Rams with an All-American finish in the decathlon, placing second overall after a strong two-day showing across all 10 events. McCaskill won the pole vault portion of the decathlon with a clearance of 3.95 meters and also posted event wins in the shot put at 12.06 meters and discus at 29.63 meters. He added strong performances in the 100 meters (11.52), 400 meters (52.64), 1,500 meters (5:02.39), high jump (1.62m), long jump (5.45m), javelin (37.75m), and 110-meter hurdles (18.94).

Mark Zagata also competed in the decathlon, finishing with several strong individual performances including second in the discus at 29.21 meters, third in the 400 meters in 52.83, third in the shot put at 10.56 meters, fifth in the javelin at 37.61 meters, seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in 21.10, eighth in the high jump at 1.50 meters, and ninth in the long jump at 4.97 meters. 

Dallas Turner earned All-American honors in the high jump with a third-place finish, clearing 1.93 meters to score six points for CIU.

The Rams also scored in the men's 4x800-meter relay as the team of Spencer Evans, Julian Carranza, Jacobo Garcia-Rivera and Joey Canning placed eighth in 8:37.34.

Caius Johns placed 16th in the discus with a throw of 38.15 meters, while Donavan Latimer finished 14th in the long jump at 6.21 meters. Jeremy Daniels added a 14th-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 44.21 meters.

On the track, Jamie Mayo ran 11.05 in the 100-meter prelims and 22.39 in the 200-meter prelims. Devarius Ponds clocked 11.20 in the 100-meter prelims.

The NCCAA Outdoor Championships conclude Friday, May 8.
