WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — CIU closed competition at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with a conference champion, multiple All-Conference finishes and several scoring performances Friday at JDL Fast Track.
Cameron Montgomery highlighted the day with a conference championship in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 16.22 meters and earning 10 team points.
CIU added another All-Conference performance in the pole vault as Hunter McCaskill cleared 4.00 meters to finish second and score eight points.
James Mayo posted a strong sprint double, finishing third in the 200 meters in 22.05 seconds for six points and adding four more with a 6.97-second run in the 60 meters.
The Rams' 4x400-meter relay team of Denim Jones, Jamie Mayo, Dallas Turner and Donavan Latimer secured an All-Conference finish with a runner-up time of 3:22.14, earning eight points and recording a new NAIA-listed mark.
In field events, Donavan Latimer scored four points with a fifth-place mark of 6.40 meters in the long jump. Dante Shuler and Caius Johns also competed in the shot put, placing 13th and 14th, respectively.
On the track, Julian Carranza placed seventh in the 600 meters in 1:26.17 to score two points, while Mark Zagata finished eighth in 1:26.45 to add one.
The Rams' 4x800-meter relay team of Spencer Evans, Hunter McCaskill, Joey Canning and Jacobo Garcia-Rivera also scored, placing eighth in 8:31.64.
