WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — CIU opened competition at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at JDL Fast Track with multiple scoring performances and an All-Conference finishes to highlight the first day.
Freshman Dallas Turner led the Rams with a runner-up finish in the men's high jump, clearing 1.90 meters to earn eight team points and All-Conference honors.
CIU's throwers also delivered strong results in the weight throw. Cameron Montgomery placed third with a mark of 16.21 meters to secure All-Conference status and six points, while Dante Shuler added two points with a seventh-place finish at 15.15 meters.
In field action, Donavan Latimer scored five points in the triple jump with a fourth-place leap of 13.46 meters.
On the track, James Mayo advanced through preliminaries in the 60 meters, clocking 6.99 seconds to qualify for the finals. Denim Jones added a ninth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 51.55 seconds.
The Rams' distance medley relay squad of Spencer Evans, Mark Zagata, Julian Carranza and Jacobo Garcia-Rivera placed eighth in 11:14.63, adding a point and recording a new NAIA-listed mark.
Bryce Scarborough also competed in the weight throw, finishing 18th at 12.15 meters.
The AAC Championships continue Friday with finals and additional scoring opportunities for the Rams.
