WAVERLY, Ga. - Luke Hammond recorded one of the lowest 18-hole scores in CIU men's golf history on Tuesday as the Rams jumped four spots in round three on the team leaderboard to finish eighth overall at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invite.
Hammond shot a 68 (-4) in the final round, completing a top ten individual finish. Hammond capped his stellar afternoon with a birdie on the 16th hole (par 3).
Nate Caughman also had an impressive finish to the day as he shot a 73 (+1) and birdied holes 15, 16, and 17. Andrew Haarlow finished +5 in round three, while Santoas Espinosa completed the Rams team score with an 81. Micah Smith also competed and shot an 81.
CIU head coach Major McWhorter spoke on his team's performance, saying, "Rough start for the team in rounds one and two, but very impressed with how we bounced back in round three. Andrew and Luke demonstrated why they are our leaders, leading both on and off the course this week. This was Nate's first college tournament, and he handled the nerves perfectly. Lots of work to be done, but we learned a lot about ourselves as a team this week."
CIU gets nearly a three-week break until they head to Augusta to defend their 2024 title at the NCCAA South Region Championship, Sept. 29-30.
