COLUMBIA, S.C. – Columbia International University Director of Athletics Stefan Vasiloff has announced that the interim tag has been removed from Major McWhorter, who will continue as the head coach of the CIU men's golf program.

Under McWhorter's leadership during the 2025-26 season, the Rams enjoyed one of the most successful campaigns in program history. CIU captured multiple tournament victories, consistently competed among the top teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, and qualified for the 2026 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship.

The season was highlighted by Luke Hammond becoming the first NAIA First Team All-American in program history and claiming the NCCAA Individual National Championship. 

"I'm honored to continue to lead the CIU golf program," said McWhorter. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to give back to a place that has meant so much to me and my life. I'm excited to continue building a program that strives for excellence, develops strong men, and pursues championships."

A 2023 graduate of CIU, McWhorter was a four-year letter winner for the Rams men's golf program.
