Hammond adds historic NAIA All-American honor to decorated career

May 28, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — CIU senior men's golfer Luke Hammond added another historic honor to his decorated career on Thursday as he became the first men's golfer in program history to earn NAIA First Team All-American recognition.

The Prosperity, South Carolina native capped off one of the best seasons in program history by finishing the year ranked No. 9 nationally in the NAIA while posting a 70.3 scoring average throughout the season. Hammond's First Team All-American honor adds to an already impressive list of postseason accolades that included NCCAA All-American honors, NAIA PING All-Region recognition, and Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) All-Conference honors.

"No one is more deserving of this honor than Luke," said CIU Head Coach Major McWhorter. "Watching the hard work and dedication he's put in during his time at CIU has been special. He has one of the smartest golf minds I've ever seen, and I can't wait to see where his talent and passion for the game takes him in the future."

During the 2025 fall season, Hammond became the first golfer in program history to win the NCCAA Men's Golf Individual National Championship while also setting the NCCAA Championship 18-hole scoring record with a round of 65.
