Women's Track & Field finishes John-Hunter Classic with admirable showings in several events

COLUMBIA — The CIU women's track and field team showcased a strong performance on the second day of their home meet, the John-Hunter Classic, competing against a field of athletes from various collegiate levels. Acoya Hunt led the Rams with first-place finishes in both the shot put and discus events. Hunt's throw of 11.04 meters (NCCAA Q) secured her victory in the shot put, while her 35.86-meter throw (NCCAA Q) won the discus competition. Coral Curry also contributed to the team's success in the throwing events, placing fourth in the shot put with a distance of 10.26 meters and fifth in the discus with a throw of 33.83 meters (NCCAA Q). Lillian Grumbles took fourth place in discus with 34.34m (NCCAA Q), and Janasia Day finished seventh with 32.45m. Mercy Berkemeyer finished 13th in the shot put with 6.04m.

On the track, Morgan Johnson had a pair of solid performances, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.62 seconds and fourth in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.26 seconds. Berkemeyer also shined in the 800-meter run, finishing fourth with a time of 2:28.60. Elizabeth Gustafson took 13th in the 800m with a time of 2:38.17, followed by Morgan Hartman in 18th place with a time of 2:39.76. Gustafson also finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.92.

The Rams concluded the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team, composed of Johnson, Bethany Rymer, Gustafson, and Berkemeyer, completed the race in 4:16.92.
