WALESKA, Ga. — CIU women's volleyball earned a signature road victory on Saturday, defeating Reinhardt University (Ga.) (25-22, 15-25, 25-18, 25-21) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play to avenge an early-season loss to the Eagles. The Rams' pair of wins this weekend helped head coach Katie Weiss surpass the 200-career win mark. Weiss has had stops at Bethel (Ind.) and CIU.
CIU (20-6, 16-2 AAC) used a strong defensive effort at the net and timely attacking to hand Reinhardt (25-6, 15-2 AAC) just its second conference loss of the season. With the result, CIU, Reinhardt, and Johnson University (Tenn.) now sit in a tight race near the top of the AAC standings, each holding two conference losses entering the final weekend of the regular season.
Zcearia James led the Rams with 12 kills on a .458 hitting percentage and added four block assists. Eevy Bellar finished with eight kills and totaled 10 blocks to lead a dominant effort at the net, while Lydia Gustafson posted seven kills and seven blocks. Katelynn Mundy contributed six kills and four blocks, and Mary Norwood added eight kills and three blocks.
Setter Macy Brooks paced the offense with 26 assists, while Maria Ferreira added 15 assists and 13 digs. Libero Kelcey Mangum totaled a match-high 21 digs to help steady the back row. C
CIU's 17 total team blocks are third all-time in a match in program history, and the Rams' 30 block assists as a team are the second most all-time.
CIU will close out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 7, when the Rams host Columbia College (S.C.) at 6:30 p.m. ET inside the Moore Fitness Center.
