COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU women's volleyball closed its regular season on a high note Friday night, sweeping Columbia College (25-16, 25-13, 25-8) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Senior Night at the Moore Fitness Center.
The evening was highlighted by senior middle blocker Lydia Gustafson, who became the first player in program history to record 500 career blocks, reaching the milestone early in the match. Gustafson finished with five kills on a .500 hitting percentage and totaled six blocks in the victory.
CIU (21-6, 17-2 AAC) controlled the match from start to finish, hitting .288 as a team while holding Columbia (5-22, 5-13 AAC) to a -.053 hitting percentage.
Zcearia James led the Rams with seven kills and five block assists, while Eevy Bellar added five kills and three total blocks on .667 hitting. Carlee Groeneveld contributed five kills, and Mary Norwood tallied three.
Setter Maria Ferreira recorded 17 assists and one service ace, while Macy Brooks handed out 12 assists and added six digs. Libero Kelcey Mangum collected 11 digs to lead the back row. CIU finished with eight total team blocks and five service aces in the sweep.
With the regular season now complete, the Rams will await the final results of Saturday's AAC matches to determine their seeding for the upcoming Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.
