WAGRAM, N.C. — CIU men's golf held its lead in the final round of the Koala Invite on Tuesday to secure the team title at Deercroft Golf Course. The Rams followed up their opening round with a steady second day to finish 16 strokes ahead of the field in a tournament that featured five Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponents.
Luke Hammond delivered a record-setting performance, firing a 66 in round two to finish at 135 for the tournament — the lowest 36-hole score in program history. His 66 also ranks as the second-lowest 18-hole round in CIU history.
Nate Caughman posted a 74 in the final round to finish fourth individually, while Andrew Haarlow climbed the leaderboard with a 71 to take sixth. Braydon Hileman carded a 79, and Camden Stikeleather shot a 78 to complete the Rams' scoring on day two.
Head coach Major McWhorter commented on his team's effort saying, "Could not be more proud of the way our guys showed up today. We felt confident heading into round two with the lead and did what we needed to do to secure the second win in two weeks. Luke displayed one of the best rounds in school history, boosting the entire team this time out."
CIU topped a competitive field that included Montreat (N.C.), Johnson (Tenn.), Bluefield (Va.), SCAD Atlanta, and Columbia (S.C.) — all members of the AAC.
Next up for the Rams is the Pioneer Fall Invitational, which will take place Monday, Oct. 13, and Tuesday, Oct. 14.
