Women's Track & Field back in action with a trip to the Mondo College Invite

WINSTON-SALEM - CIU women's track & field opened up competition in 2025 on Saturday at the Mondo College Invite, hosted by JDL Fast Track. The meet featured colleges and universities from all levels of college athletics, creating a competitive meet that pitted some of the Southeast's best college athletes against one another.

Track Performances:

The women's 60-meter prelims saw senior Morgan Johnson run 8.02 seconds, while in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Johnson posted a time of 9.42 seconds. Both times are top-100 in the NAIA.

Johnson continued her strong performance in the 200 meters, running 26.64 seconds to finish an impressive 4th overall in the event out of 69 competitors.

In the 600 meters, junior Jordan Wray posted a time of 1:57.49 while Elizabeth Gustafson ran the women's 800 meters in 2:40.12, finishing 23rd in the field. In the 1000 meters, freshman Morgan Hartman clocked 3:42.89 to place 11th overall.

In the women's 1-mile race, redshirt Jada Figgins ran a time of 6:15.57, further expanding CIU' distance team's contribution to Saturday's outing.

Field Performances:

The women's shot put featured a Kloey Pickens throw of 12.11 meters, placing her 6th overall. Pickens was supported in the event by Coral Curry (10.90) and Acoya Hunt (10.23).

In the weight throw, Pickens had a standout performance, throwing 16.15 meters to finish 4th overall, while Curry also had a solid throw of 15.81 meters, finishing 5th and qualifying her for the NCCAA Championships. Both throws are top 20 in the NAIA.

The Rams had three other athletes compete in the weight throw. Hunt threw 12.51 meters, placing 15th in the event. Freshman Janasia Day recorded a throw of 10.78 meters, finishing 19th, while senior Hannah Grace Sparks threw 9.87 meters, finishing 23rd.

Up Next: The Rams will head to the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va. the weekend of Jan. 24-25.
