KNOXVILLE - CIU volleyball stayed perfect all-time versus Johnson (Tenn.) and stayed perfect in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action this season, sweeping the Royals 25-16, 25-20, 25-23 on Saturday. The Rams are now 15-1 overall, and Coach Katie Weiss is just three wins shy of recording her 50th win as the head coach of the Rams.
Hanah Weiss (12 kills, .524) and Katie Camp (11 kills, .333) led the Rams offensively with double-digit kills. Setters Kamelia De Jesus and Melissa Campos Soto combined for 40 assists, with 22 assists from De Jesus and 18 from Campos Soto.
Gabriela Vega stuffed the stat sheet with seven kills, two aces, and two blocks. Defensive specialists Lexabel Rojas and Kelcey Mangum defended well, with Rojas notching 12 digs and Mangum totaling 16.
What Coach Katie Weiss is saying: "Glad to be heading home with two wins. Injuries have plagued this team all season, but we have not let that keep us from winning matches we are supposed to win. Proud of our team for overcoming any travel fatigue and getting the sweep."
