ANDERSON, S.C. - Day two of the Electric City Invite was action-packed for CIU's women's track and field team. The squad recorded multiple podium finishes with many personal records and prepped them for upcoming championship meets.
With four competitors in the 100m race, Emma Johnson took home first place (11.80, NAIA 'A'), and Trinyty Gregory placed third (12.05). Charlette Johnson finished shortly after with a personal record of 12.21, and Talayna Reed rounded out the competition with a personal record of 12.86.
Emma Johnson placed third in the 100m hurdles (14.26, NAIA 'A'), as Ane' Peasley came in seventh with a time of 14.86. Reed checked in at 15.78.
Five members of the squad competed in the 200m, all placing in the top twenty. Emma Johnson recorded her third podium finish, winning first place in the 200m with a time of 24.49 (NAIA 'A'). Gregory clocked in at 25.37, while Charlette Johnson set a personal record with 25.51. Morgan Johnson (26.09) and Ane' Peasley (27.13, PR) closed out the competition.
Jordan Wray was the sole competitor from the squad in the 400m, setting a personal record with a time of 1:05.61. Reed represented in the 400m with a time of 1:10.35 (PR). Rosemary Reed recorded a time of 2:30.85 (PR) in the 800m, while Lydia Willhite represented in the 3000m steeple with a season-best time of 12:54.73.
The 4x400m team, with Charlette Johnson, Emma Johnson, Morgan Johnson, and Gregory, finished third at 4:01.63.
Lillian Grumble placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 35.70m, and Coral Curry finished right behind her with a personal record of 35.47m. Acoya Hunt also placed in the top-ten with a distance of 34.38m.
Closing out competition on the field, Kloey Pickens placed second in the shot put with a distance of 12.73m. Hunt and Curry finished neck and neck, checking in at 10.70m and 10.57m, respectively.
What Coach John Sparks is saying, "This was a great meet to prepare us for the AAC outdoor championships. We had several more school records and NAIA qualifiers. Our goal is to peak at this time, and that appears to be happening. "
