COLUMBIA - The CIU women's track and field team competed on Saturday, day two of the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina, displaying their skills across various events.
In the sprints, Trinyty Gregory led the way in the 100m prelims, finishing 13th place at 12.07 seconds. Charlette Johnson also competed in the 100m, placing 28th at 12.55 seconds. Johnson also ran the 200m, finishing 29th in 25.96 seconds (5th fastest in NCCAA).
A trio of CIU athletes competed in the hurdles. Emma Johnson secured a spot in the finals with a 10th-place finish in the 100m hurdles prelims, clocking in at 14.36 seconds. Ane' Peasley (15.33) and TaLayna Reed (16.73) finished 19th and 27th, respectively, in the prelims. Johnson competed in the 400m hurdles finals, placing 16th at 1:07.40 (12th fastest in NAIA). Reed also competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing 22nd at 1:13.62.
Jordan Wray represented the Rams in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 33rd place at 2:40.16. In the 1500 m, Rosemary Reed secured a 20th-place finish in 5:15.99, while Lydia Willhite followed closely behind in 23rd place with a time of 5:19.98.
In the field events, Acoya Hunt led the way for CIU in the discus throw, earning a 13th-place finish with a throw of 35.51 meters (6th in NCCAA). Lillian Grumbles (32.63m) and Coral Curry (31.55m) placed 16th and 18th respectively. Hunt also competed in the shot put, recording a distance of 10.98 meters for 19th place (7th in NCCAA). Curry rounded the Rams' representation in the shot put, placing 28th with a throw of 9.73 meters.

We now have quite a few athletes ranked in the top ten in the latest NCCAA rankings. We are continuing to gain valuable experience for the rest of the season."
