Women's Track and Field posts national qualifiers at Virginia meet

LYNCHBURG, Va. - CIU women's track and field teams kept prepping for their championship meets that are quickly approaching with the highly competitive Liberty Open meet on Saturday, where they faced NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA squads. 

On the track, Emma Johnson (7.71) finished sixth in the 60m finals to meet the NAIA 'B' standard. Trinyty Gregory (7.75, NCCAA, AAC) finished soon after to grab seventh place finish. In the semi-finals, Charlette Johnson recorded a time of 7.87 (NCCAA, AAC), while Ane' Peasley checked in at 8.28 in the prelims (AAC). 

In the women's one-mile run, Lydia Willhite posted a time of 5:49.74 to qualify for the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Championships. Rosemary Reed (2:33.46, AAC) and Jordan Wray (2:39.31) represented the Rams in the 800m race. 

On the track, Morgan Johnson reached a distance of 4.87m in the long jump and threw 9.90m in the women's shot put and qualified for NCCAA's in the long jump and AAC's in both events. In the shot put section A, Kloey Pickens placed third with a distance of 12.63m (NCCAA, AAC). Acoya Hunt (10.74m) and Coral Curry (10.50m) also placed in the top twenty of the event. 

Dazanni Hinton (15.46m) placed fourth in the women's weight throw to meet the NAIA 'A' standard, while Pickens (16.02m) finished in seventh to meet the NAIA 'B' standard. Curry (13.15m NCCAA, AAC) and Hunt (11.50m, AAC) had strong performances in the event in their own right. 

Up Next: The squad heads to Cedarville, Ohio., next weekend, Feb. 9-10, to compete in the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
