COLUMBIA — CIU women's volleyball rallied from a first-set deficit on Saturday to sweep Reinhardt (Ga.) 25-23, 25-15, 25-21. The win clinches CIU's fourth consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular-Season Championship. It is the Rams' third straight outright regular-season crown, as they shared the honor with Bryan (Tenn.) as co-champions in 2021. Head Coach Katie Weiss now holds a 38-2 conference record in two years at the helm of the women's volleyball program, her 2024 team finishes the regular season at 29-2 overall and 19-1 in the AAC. The Rams have not lost a regular-season match at home since the 2020 season.
CIU trailed 17-12 in the first set before storming back in front of a raucous home crowd to steal set one. The match's second set was all CIU, as the Rams won by double-digits. Set three was tight, with multiple lead changes. However, CIU's veteran squad never wavered, seizing the third set for the sweep.
The Rams' frontline arguably changed the course of the match as Lydia Gustafson was a part of nine of CIU's 11 blocks. Hanah Weiss and Katie Camp were a part of several of Gustafson's match-alternating defensive stands as Weiss tallied four block assists and Camp posted three. Both players were forces offensively as well, with Weiss chalking up ten kills and Camp adding nine.
Kamelia De Jesus recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 15 digs, while fellow setter Melissa Campos Soto contributed 16 assists to aid CIU's effort. Kelcey Mangum led CIU in digs with 17.
Bellamy Fennell, Lexabel Rojas, and Gabriela Vega each penciled in in two service aces.
