Rams Fall in Regular Season Finale

The Columbia International University women's basketball team traveled to Denmark, SC to take on Voorhees College in their final regular season game. The Rams were looking to pick up a victory to end the season on a high note, but the Tigers got the best of the Rams. The Rams fell 73-56 to the Tigers. The Rams end the regular season with a record of 7-16.

The Rams started to game off hot as they opened on a 9-0 run with Abigail Siemens, Aaliyah Knox, and Liz Jenkins all scoring on that run. Unfortunately, the Tigers would go on a 14-2 run of their own and take the lead. The Rams would continue to struggle in the opening quarter and go into the second quarter down 14-11.

The Rams and Tigers would trade baskets for most of the second quarter as Makeda DeSouza scored seven of the Rams fifteen in the quarter, but the Tigers would hit a couple shots in the final minutes of the second to take a 33-26 lead into the half.

The Rams and Tigers would come out of the half struggling to find any rhythm as it took the Rams until the seventh minute to score their first basket of the quarter. The Rams would get a couple baskets back-to-back, but the Tigers would continue to fight to keep their lead. The Rams would get points from DeSouza, Fleming, Jenkins, and Knox.

At the start of the fourth quarter the Rams would cut the Tigers lead to eight after two free throws from Abigail Siemens, but over the next four minutes the Tigers would run their lead back to 14. The Tigers would continue to hold onto their double digit lead and go onto win 73-56.

Columbia International shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the field, while Voorhees shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the floor...The Rams held the edge in rebounds as they had 47 compared to the Tigers 38...Makeda DeSouza led the Rams with 13 points and had eight rebounds...Raven Fleming had a double-double for the Rams as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds...Abigail Siemens had nine rebounds and eight points, while Aaliyah Knox had nine points...Keosho Hardaway led the Tigers with 23 points.

The Rams will be back in action on Wednesday, March 8 as they host the NCCAA South Region Championship Game. The Rams will play Emmanuel College at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to the NCCAA National Tournament.
