Box Score The Columbia International University women's basketball team opened their season tonight against Columbia College. Coaching in her first game for the Rams was Temple Elmore, she is no stranger to CIU as she was the assistant coach for the past two year. In the battle of Columbia the Rams were looking to pick-up their first win of the year. However, the Rams would fall to the Koalas by a final score of 75-70.
The Rams and Koalas battled in the first quarter as the score went back and forth, but at the end of the quarter it was the Koalas who were leading 25-19. The Rams came out looking to draw the game closer and take the lead. Each team continued to play well through the fouls, but the Koalas would take a 41-34 lead into the half.
After halftime the Rams came out firing looking to chip away at the lead. The Rams pulled very close to taking the lead, but just missed a chance as the Koalas would go on a scoring run of their own. After the third quarter it was the Koalas once again who had the lead. The fourth quarter proved to be really interesting as the Rams had ten more minutes to win or tie the game. This quarter was the Rams best quarter as they would out score the Koalas 20-16. The Rams pushed for the lead and came close to having it, but a couple key shots from the Koalas kept them the lead that they had throughout the game. As the fourth quarter ended the Koalas won by the final of 75-70.
The Rams were led by Liz Jenkins who had 22 points...The Rams had balanced scoring throughout the game as they score 19, 15, 16, 20 throughout the four quarters.
The Rams will be back in action tomorrow as they host Montreat College at 5:30 p.m.
