Box Score The Columbia University men's soccer team was looking to get back in the win column after falling to Emmanuel College on Saturday. The Rams traveled to Central, SC to take on the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan. The Rams would go toe-to-toe with the Warriors in the first half, but the Warriors exploded in the second half to win 6-2. The Rams drop to 5-7, while the Warriors move to 6-4.
The Warriors would jump out in front of the Rams first as they were able to score in the 12th minute. It wasn't long before the Rams would even the score at one as Hunter Haynes was able to take a pass from Braden Elmer and deposit it into the goal. The teams would continue to battle until the Rams were able to pick up their second goal as Paul Grandacarpio was able to get one past the Warriors goalkeeper. After the Rams second goal the whole momentum of the game would shift. Grandacarpio would pick up his second yellow card which would result in a subsequent red card. The Rams were leading 2-1 when the red card was issued and losing a key player in the middle that is a player maker on offense and a great help on defense changed the complexion of the game. With the Rams playing down the Warriors would score one more goal in the first half with just thirty-five seconds remaining. As the teams would go into half tied at two.
The Rams were unable to get any momentum back after the break as the Warriors would go on to score four second half goals and win by a final of 6-2.
The Rams offense had 13 shots with six being on goal...Grandacarpio and Haynes led the Rams as they each had a goal...Elmer was able to pick up an assist...Luke Brooks had seven saves for the Rams.
"The turning point in the match was the second yellow and subsequent red card issued to Paul. We were leading 2-1 at the time and that card totally changed the complexion of the game. We will look to rebound on Saturday at Truett-McConnell," said Coach James Whitaker.
The Rams will travel to Truett-McConnell on Saturday to take on Bears at 4 p.m.
