COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU women's volleyball swept three Appalachian Athletic Conference weekly awards Monday as Ava Koselke was named AAC Defender of the Week, Mary Norwood earned AAC Attacker of the Week and Macy Brooks was selected as AAC Setter of the Week.
The trio helped lead the Rams to a perfect 3-0 week in conference play with victories over Truett McConnell University, Johnson University and Union Commonwealth University. CIU swept both Truett McConnell and Union Commonwealth while earning a four-set road victory over Johnson. The three wins extended the Rams' AAC winning streak to five matches and improved CIU to 9-10 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Norwood powered the CIU attack throughout the week, totaling 44 kills across 10 sets. She opened the week with 13 kills while hitting .306 in the Rams' sweep of Truett McConnell before recording a week-high 17 kills in Friday's four-set victory over Johnson. Norwood closed the week with another strong performance Saturday, putting down 14 kills and hitting .333 against Union Commonwealth.
Koselke made her presence felt at the net throughout CIU's three victories. She totaled 13 blocks during the week, highlighted by four solo blocks and two block assists against Johnson. Koselke added four total blocks in the sweep of Union Commonwealth and also contributed offensively throughout the week. Against Truett McConnell, she put down four kills on five attempts for an .800 hitting percentage.
Brooks directed a CIU offense that was highly efficient throughout the week, totaling 113 assists across the Rams' three victories. She handed out 31 assists in the sweep of Truett McConnell before producing one of her best all-around performances of the season at Johnson with 45 assists and 22 digs. Brooks capped the week with 37 assists in Saturday's sweep of Union Commonwealth.
Behind Brooks, CIU hit .311 against Truett McConnell and .307 against Union Commonwealth, while the Rams held all three opponents below a .135 hitting percentage for their respective matches.
CIU returns home Tuesday, Sept. 29, when the Rams host Montreat College in another AAC matchup. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET inside the Moore Fitness Center.
