CHAPIN, S.C. — CIU men's golf is tied for third place out of 19 teams after the opening round of the 2026 Koala Classic, hosted by Columbia College on Monday. The Rams posted a team score of 300 in round one.
Micah Smith led the way for CIU with a 1-under-par 70, pacing the Rams with the low round of the day.
Luke Hammond followed with a 74 (+3), carding rounds of 36 on the front nine and 38 on the back. Andrew Haarlow added a 77 (+6), highlighted by an even-par back nine.
Camden Stikeleather rounded out the team scoring with a 79 (+8), while Nate Caughman finished with an 84 (+13).
Competing as individuals, Braydon Hileman recorded a 75 (+4), and Santos Espinosa posted an 81 (+10).
Head coach Major McWhorter reflected on the opening round.
"Wild start for us on the front 9 but our guys fought hard on the back to give us a chance heading into tomorrow. Micah boosted our confidence as a team with his performance. Very proud of the team today and looking forward to our chance at a repeat victory."
The Rams will continue play Tuesday.
