October 28, 2025

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Columbia International University men's golf capped its fall schedule with a historic performance at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Showcase at Barnsley Garden & Resort, finishing second overall for the highest team placement at the event in program history.

Luke Hammond, currently ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, continued his standout form by winning the individual title, making him the first player in CIU men's golf history to finish first overall at the AAC Fall Showcase. Hammond opened with a 71 on Monday and followed with an even-par 72 to secure the top spot on the leaderboard.

Nate Caughman also earned a top-five finish, placing fifth overall after posting scores of 77 and 72 across the two rounds. Andrew Haarlow turned in rounds of 74 and 79, while Braydon Hileman recorded scores of 82 and 80 to complete CIU's team scoring.

Competing individually, Micah Smith shot rounds of 89 and 81, and Santos Espinosa carded 94 and 82.

The result closes what stands as the most successful fall season in program history, marked by multiple top finishes and Hammond's sustained rise on the national stage.

Head Coach Major McWhorter reflected on both the performance and the growth of the team.

"Not the result we wanted today but I am happy with how we competed on a very challenging golf course. Could not be prouder of this team and the season they had," McWhorter said. "Luke has been on another planet these last few weeks and it is a testament to the hard work he puts in daily."
