CEDARVILLE, Ohio — CIU delivered an impressive opening day Friday at the NCCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, with the Rams' men's team in second place and the women's team in third following six All-American performances and several finals qualifications.
CIU's strongest showing came in the men's weight throw, where Cameron Montgomery finished second with a mark of 15.97 meters (PR) and Dante Shuler placed third at 15.45 (PR) meters to earn All-American honors.Bryce Scarborough also competed in the weight throw with a mark of 12.49m.
Lydia Gustafson added another podium finish for the Rams, clearing 1.60 meters to place second in the women's high jump (School Record). Caroline Rimmer secured All-American status in the women's pole vault with a third-place clearance of 3.10 meters (PR), while Dallas Turner finished second in the men's high jump at 1.90 meters.
Michaela Oglesby made program history by becoming the first CIU women's athlete to earn All-American honors in the multis, placing second in the pentathlon (PR - 60H, HJ, Shot Put, 800M). She also advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.81 seconds.
On the track, James Mayo qualified for the finals of the men's 60-meter dash after posting a time of 6.93 seconds. CIU also competed in both 4x200-meter relays, with the women (Arion Jefferson Lydia and Elizabeth Gustafson, Margan Hartman) finishing in 1:52.59 and the men (James Mayo, Donavan Latimer, Dallas Turner, Denim Jones) placing fifth out of 13 teams at 1:32.72 (School Record).
The championships continue Saturday at Cedarville University.
