Esports settles in, some soaring, others hit stumbling blocks.

Esports exits week 2 with some teams slipping but others soaring high. Marvel Rivals, Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, and Overwatch all had matches and they are continuing to improve and push on for a great mid-season.

Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals had an interesting game. They took on Samford University and had a hard fought game but lost 2-3 in game 5. Despite a stand-out performance and originally taking the lead 2-1, the Rams ultimately fell short as Samford stormed back to take the series to game 5 and eventually clinched the win. They look to take on Ottawa University-Kansas next week for a bounce-back game and look to recapture their rhythm to continue the season.

Rocket League

Rocket League continues to push to be the best of the bunch in both leagues. This past week, they sent a message that they are ready to play and are ready to win. In PCL league, they took on UNC Pembroke which looked to be a tough match up. CIU stepped up and took over, taking down Pembroke in a 3-0 sweep. The games were close but they made sure to secure each win. Samuel "samiam" Santander continues to be a standout freshman and the team looks poised to continue. They went into their second league game in C3 Esports and dominated a beleaguered NC A&T team with a 4-0 sweep of their own. Being on the main broadcast for the league, CIU managed to show up and show out with their dominating win and look to continue that trend.

Overwatch

Overwatch took on UNC Asheville for the start of week 2. Unfortunately it has caused more questions to rise as Overwatch fell in a 0-3 sweep to UNC Asheville. They look to bounce-back in two weeks as they have a bye week but then a game against ECU and Clemson Esports. 

Super Smash Brothers  

Super Smash Bros at the start of the year looked to play and make it the best season ever. They continued that with one of their most dominant wins ever in team history. They take down Miami-Dade College in a 2-0 sweep in the Best of 3 series. Led by Caleb Phillips using the bear and bird of Banjo & Kazooie, CIU dominated and took the series easily. They look to continue that next week against Harrisburg University and get the Smash Bros team's first ever 3-0 start.
