CIU sweeps Columbia College to stay unbeaten in all-time series

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia International kept its perfect all-time record (17-0) intact against Columbia College with a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-17, 25-14) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play Friday night at Godbold Gym.

The Rams (7-5, 3-1 AAC) hit .359 as a team and never trailed after the opening set on their way to their latest win over the Koalas (1-11, 1-2 AAC).

Katelynn Mundy led a balanced attack with eight kills on a blistering .615 hitting percentage. Zcearia James added six kills and two service aces while Lydia Gustafson contributed four kills, and eight total blocks. Mary Norwood chipped in three kills on .400 hitting, and Eevy Bellar made the most of her lone set with three kills on a perfect 1.000 clip and a block.

Setter Macy Brooks ran the offense with 20 assists in two sets and added a service ace. Skylar Dewhirst handed out eight assists in one set. Lesiray Marrero-Nazario sparked the Rams from the service line with three aces, while libero Kelcey Mangum held down the defense with a team-high 12 digs.

CIU finished with 11 solo blocks — with seven coming from Gustafson in impressive defensive display.

The Rams return to conference action next week as they face Truett McConnell (Ga.) on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
