Boaventura leads CIU past Union Commonwealth in 4–1 victory

Columbia, S.C. – CIU women's soccer continued its strong start to the season with a 4–1 victory over Union Commonwealth (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon at Sessions Field.

Lohrane Boaventura opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing off a pass from Lauren Jackson. After Union briefly equalized, the Rams regained control when freshman Zamaria Baugh slotted in a goal the 35th minute, assisted by Boaventura.

Boaventura struck again early in the second half, calmly converting a penalty kick in the 51st minute to push the lead to 3–1. CIU capped off the scoring in the 70th minute when Callie Rowe netted a beautiful ball, with Lily Jackson recording her second assist of the day.

The Rams outshot Union 14–7 and controlled possession throughout, creating chances from all over the field. Goalkeepers Hailey Resetar and Taylor Bullock combined for four saves in the win.

With the result, CIU improved to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play, CIU will face Montreat College (N.C.) on Sept. 17 on the pitch at Sessions Field.
