JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CIU women's soccer came up just short on Saturday evening, dropping a 2-1 decision on the road at NCAA Division II Edward Waters. The match counted toward CIU's NAIA record but was considered an exhibition for the Tigers.
The Rams (1-1) nearly left Jacksonville with a result after rallying back in the second half. CIU trailed 1-0 at halftime but found the equalizer in the 85th minute when senior forward Lohrane Boaventura buried her second goal of the young season to draw the game level.
Edward Waters, however, capitalized late, netting the game-winner in the 90th minute to deny CIU a desirable road result.
CIU generated steady offensive pressure with 10 shots, including four on goal. Boaventura led the attack with three shots, while Callie Rowe and Marisa Dill also tested the goalkeeper. Lily Vengelis added a shot on frame off the bench.
Defensively, goalkeeper Hailey Resetar kept the Rams in the game with four saves, including a pair of crucial stops in the first half to limit the damage. The Rams are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Carolina University in Winston-Salem.
