COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU women's soccer opened its 2025 campaign with a 2-0 win over Point University (Ga.) on Saturday evening at the Southeastern Freightlines Soccer Center.
The Rams controlled the pace early, outshooting the Skyhawks 10-3 in the first half. CIU broke through in the 37th minute when Marisa Dill fired home the season's first goal to put the Rams ahead 1-0.
In the second half, CIU added insurance as Lohrane Boaventura scored in the 58th minute off an assist from Lily Jackson. From there, the Rams' back line and goalkeeper Hailey Resetar kept the clean sheet intact, holding Point scoreless despite eight total shots. Resetar finished with four saves in the victory.
CIU closed the match with a 17-8 shot advantage and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. The win marks the Rams' fifth consecutive season-opening victory.
CIU (1-0) will return to action later in a weeks time in nonconference play versus Edward Waters (Fla.) on Aug. 30 in Jacksonville.
