PIKEVILLE, Ky. - CIU softball (16-18, 9-9 AAC) finished the weekend with a Saturday afternoon Appalachain Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup against the University of Pikeville. The Rams easily took game one with a 6-1 win but lost in a tight game two 1-0 to the Bears (11-18, 4-10 AAC).
Game One: CIU 6 UPike 1: Abigail Guthrie put the Rams on the board in the second inning with an RBI single. Both teams went scoreless, with the Bears not even moving a runner into scoring position until the top of the fifth. CIU took advantage of a defensive miscue and scored two more runs to lead 3-0. RBI hits from Caydon Thompson, Lilli Petty, and Alexuz Barnes scored three more in the top of the seventh for the Rams to lead 6-0 heading into the final half inning. The Bears did not go down without a fight, with three hits to score one run, but two groundouts and a strikeout ended the threat.

Game Two: UPike 1 CIU 0: Both teams struggled to move runners around the bases until the Bears struck in the bottom of the fourth (1-0). Macey Drye and Mayers advanced into scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings but were left stranded. Sophia Noriega singled in the top of the seventh with two outs, but a lineout ended the comeback chances for the Rams.
