KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Isabella Daivs diced up Columbia College (S.C.) on the mound, and Caydon Thompson provided the offensive firepower as CIU softball picked up their first-ever Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament win, holding off the No. 9 seeded Koalas 2-0. The Rams will move to the next round of the double-elimination tournament in possession of a 25-24 overall record.
Game Summary: A pitching duel ensued from the start of the game as Davis held the Koala's offense at bay while both teams struggled to push across a run. Columbia's best offensive effort came in the second inning when they recorded two hits. However, Thompson would turn the tide of the game in the sixth on a two-run home run, scoring the game's only runs. Davis stayed stalwart on the mound to close the game out as the Rams held on for the win.
