BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - CIU softball (19-23, 12-14 AAC) wrapped up Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play with a midweek doubleheader against Union Commonwealth (Ky.). The Rams rallied for a 9-2 comeback win in game one, then controlled game two from the start, earning a 6-1 victory. With the sweep, CIU finishes conference play at .500 and now turns its attention to the AAC Tournament next week.
Game One: CIU 9 Union 2: The Bulldogs jumped ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the third, but their lead didn't last long. RBI singles from Macey Drye and Lilli Petty in the fourth gave the Rams a 2-1 edge. CIU capitalized on three Union defensive miscues in the fifth to tack on three more runs. The Rams' offense peaked in the seventh, plating four runs on four hits and two more Bulldog errors. Union added one run in their final at-bat, but CIU shut the door to secure the win.

Game Two: CIU 6 Union 1: A sac fly from Caydon Thompson and an RBI single by Mayers put the Rams on top 2-0 in the first inning. Abby Ragan held the Bulldogs in check until the fourth, when Union plated one to trim the deficit. CIU responded in the sixth with a four-run burst, sparked by a two-RBI single from Macey Drye and followed by back-to-back RBI singles from Lilli Petty and Abigail Guthrie. Union managed just one hit over the final two innings, as the Rams locked in a 6-1 win to complete the sweep.
