JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Kloey Pickens won her fourth AAC shot put title, and Deandre Leith and Elijah Seawright also took home individual championships as the CIU track and field teams wrapped up the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Championships.
Pickens, a senior, won the women's shot put with a mark of 12.74 meters. Leith, also a senior, won his third AAC Men's Discus Championship with a throw of 50.78 meters. Seawright, a sophomore, won his second AAC men's triple jump championship, and his first at the outdoor championships, with a mark of 14.72 meters. Donavan Latimer, a freshman, finished second in the triple jump with 14.49 meters, earning All-Conference honors along with Seawright.
In other women's shot put results, Acoya Hunt, a senior, finished sixth (11.22 meters), and Coral Curry, a sophomore, was 12th (10.47 meters). In the women's discus, Lillian Grumbles, a senior, placed 12th (31.27 meters), Hunt was 13th (31.06 meters), and Curry finished 14th (30.70 meters).
Leith also competed in the men's shot put, finishing 12th (12.57 meters), while Dante Shuler, a freshman, was 13th (12.50 meters). Bryce Scarborough, a junior, finished 19th in the men's discus (34.19 meters).
Other CIU athletes competed as follows: Mercy Berkemeyer placed 17th in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:28.28, and Malik Beaver finished 18th in the men's 800 meters in 2:02.75. Morgan Johnson took fourth in the women's 200m, clocking in at 25.27. Jacobo Garcia-Rivera finished 19th in the men's 5,000 meters with a time of 17:31.43. The women's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Morgan Johnson, Mercy Berkemeyer, Morgan Hartman, and Lydia Gustafson, secured fourth place with a time of 4:06.99. The men's 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Denim Jones, Julian Carranza, Beaver, and Latimer, finished fifth in 3:24.62.
The CIU men's team finished seventh overall, and the women's team finished fifth. Pickens, Leith, and Seawright were named conference champions. Pickens, Leith, and Seawright also earned All-Conference honors, along with Latimer.
