Ortiz's pole vault title highlights day two of AAC Outdoors

CIU Continues to Collect Medals and Personal Records on Day 2 of AAC Championships

The CIU men's and women's track and field teams competed on day two of the AAC Conference Championships Friday, April 18.

The men's throws team participated in the hammer throw Friday afternoon. The squad included Dante Schuler, Bryce Scarborough, and Colton Buchanan. Schuler finished sixth with a throw of 45.29 meters. The field events continued with Donovan Latimer placing sixth in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.48 meters, while Qamari Govan finished 10th with a jump of 6.06 meters.

The Rams had a strong showing in the pole vault, with Nicolas Ortiz being crowned conference champion after clearing 4.05 meters, a personal record. Hunter McCaskill placed third with a vault of 3.90 meters.

On the track, Qamari Dovan raced the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 10.98 seconds, a personal record. Denim Jones also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 51.12 seconds.

On the women's side, Caroline Rimmer took second place in the women's pole vault with a vault of 2.95 meters.

The women's hammer throw took place Friday afternoon as well. Coral Curry finished fourth with a throw of 44.15 meters, while Kloey Pickens finished just behind her in fifth with a throw of 43.77 meters. Acoya Hunt, Lillian Grumbles, Janasia Day, and Hannah Grace Sparks also competed alongside Curry and Pickens.

On the track, Morgan Johnson set a personal record, securing third place in the 100 meters with a time of 12.16 seconds. Elizabeth Gustafson also set a personal record in the 400 meters, finishing in 1:00.79 to place eighth overall.

The men's and women's teams will return for the final day of the AAC Championships Saturday, April 19.
