Men's Track & Field delivers quality performances on final day of John-Hunter Classic

COLUMBIA - The CIU men's track and field team delivered a series of strong performances on the second day of the John-Hunter Classic, held at their home track. Deandre Leith dominated the throwing events, securing first place in both the shot put and discus. Leith's throw of 15.10 meters (NCCAA Q) won him the shot put, while his 44.47-meter throw (NCCAA Q) earned him victory in the discus. Bryce Scarborough also contributed to the team's success in the throwing events, placing second in the discus with a throw of 34.00 meters and 11th in the shot put with a throw of 11.23 meters. Dante Shuler placed 9th in shot put with 12.05m (PR, NCCAA Q), Colton Buchanan finished 17th with 10.19m, and Casey Feaster finished 20th with 8.73m. Hunter McCaskill placed 18th in discus with 28.40m.

On the track and in the jumps, Elijah Seawright took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 14.29 meters, and Donovan Latimer placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 6.49 meters. Nicolás  Ortiz and Hunter McCaskill secured second and third place, respectively, in the pole vault, with Ortiz clearing 3.95 meters and McCaskill clearing 3.65 meters. In the 100-meter dash, Qamari Govan finished 12th with a time of 11.21 seconds, followed by McCaskill, Denim Jones, and Kevin Cunningham. Govan also ran 11.21 during the 100m qualifying round. Joey Canning finished the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:35.97.

Malik Beaver and Evans Spencer posted times of 2:05.16 and 2:05.80 respectively in the 800-meter run. In the 400-meter dash, Jones clocked in at 52.19 seconds, followed by Julian Carranza and Cunningham. Jacobo Riveria-Garcia completed the steeplechase in 10:53.37. The Rams concluded the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, with the team of Jones, Latimer,  Carranza, and Malik Beaver finishing in 3:25.84.

Up Next: The Rams will head to the Phoenix Invite on Mar. 14, hosted by Elon University (N.C.).
