Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. - CIU softball (13-15, 7-7 AAC) stepped out of conference play to take on Claflin University (9-17) for a Wednesday afternoon contest. The Rams took an early lead in game one to take down the NCAA Division II opponent, but could not overcome the five-run deficit in game two to split the series.
Game One: CIU 1 Claflin 0: CIU took the lead in the second inning after Caydon Thompson scored on a passed ball. Abby Ragan surrendered just one hit in five innings to keep the Panthers off the board. Claflin loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, but a strikeout from Raleigh Stewart left them stranded. In the final frame, neither team could push another run across the board, resulting in a 1-0 win for the Rams.

Game Two: Clafin 7 CIU 5: Kaitlyn Elko scored on a passed ball in the first inning after hitting a triple in her first at bat. Claflin quickly evened the score in the bottom of the frame. The Panters took their first lead of the day after a few Rams' pitching miscues to lead 6-1 after the second inning. Both teams went quietly in the third, but Megan Stolzenbach chipped away at the lead after an in-the-park homer to add two more runs for CIU (6-3). Mia Johnson picked up an RBI in the fifth after her single scored Macey Drye to bring the Rams within two. Drye singled in the next inning to push another run across for CIU to trail 6-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Panthers scratched another run on a passed ball in the sixth to extend their lead, and the Rams went down in order in the top of the seventh to split the doubleheader.
