COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU softball (10-12, 4-4 AAC) welcomed (RV) Brenau University (16-5, 5-1 AAC) for a Saturday afternoon Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest. The Golden Tigers are sitting at No. 2 in the conference standings and received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll. The Rams found themselves within reach of a comeback in both games but ultimately came up short to drop the series against Brenau.
Game One: Brenau 5 CIU 4: Neither team was able to produce much offensive action in the first three innings, but Brenau struck first in the fourth after a Rams' error. CIU responded in the bottom of the frame off an RBI single from Dallas Mayers, but the tie was shortlived as the Golden Tigers added four more runs in the fifth (5-1). With two outs in the sixth, a bases-clearing RBI triple from Megan Stolzenbach brought the Rams within one. Macey Drye led the seventh inning off with an infield single, but a double-play prevented CIU's comeback threat.

Game Two: Brenau 12 CIU 11: Brenau wasted no time getting on the board in game two after scoring two in the first inning, but CIU responded with three in the same frame, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Sophia Noriega. Both teams tacked on one run in the third, but the Golden Tigers began to pull away in the fourth and fifth with a combined eight runs (11-5). They added another in the sixth, but the Rams answered with four of their own after RBI hits from Stolzenbach, Kaitlyn Elko, Alexuz Barnes, and Mayers (12-9). Sarah Jordan got the Rams out of a bases-loaded situation in the top of the seventh. CIU nearly got the comeback win with RBI singles from Korte and Hannah Murphy, but a ground out ended the contest.
