CENTRAL, S.C. - The CIU men's track and field team delivered a solid performance at the Susan Rouse Invitational, hosted by Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday to open the 2025 outdoor season.

Danter Shuler led the way for the throws team, finishing third in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 43.03 meters. Bryce Scarborough also had a strong showing, placing fifth with a throw of 41.82 meters. Colton Buchanan rounded out the event's results for CIU, finishing tenth at 34.73 meters.

Elsewhere in field events, Qamari Govan placed eighth in the men's long jump with a leap of 5.87 meters, while Jeremy Daniels finished sixth in the men's javelin with a throw of 43.72 meters. Hunter McCaskill also competed in the javelin, securing 15th place with a mark of 34.17 meters. In the shot put, Shuler and Buchanan placed tenth and eleventh, respectively, with throws of 10.62 meters and 10.30 meters.

On the track, Govan continued to shine, finishing 11th in the 100 meters with a time of 11.30 seconds. Julian Carranza also competed in the 100 meters, placing ninth with a time of 12.07 seconds. In the men's 200 meters, Govan placed 13th with a time of 23.29 seconds, and Chance Guthrie finished 19th in 23.69 seconds. The 400 meters saw Denim Jones take 12th place in 52.90 seconds, with Guthrie and Kevin Cunningham finishing 15th and 16th, respectively, at 55.62 seconds and 56.00 seconds.

The distance events saw strong performances from Joey Canning and Jacobo Garcia-Rivera in the men's 3000 meters, as Canning placed fourth in 9:59.53 and Garcia-Rivera finished seventh with a time of 10:22.00. CIU also competed in the men's 4x400 relay, where the team of Jones, Guthrie, Cunningham, and Carranza finished fourth with a time of 3:39.94.

Also competing this weekend was Elijah Seawright, who took part in the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he participated in the men's long jump.
