COLUMBIA, S.C. — A busy week for CIU men's basketball resulted in a clean sweep of major conference and national awards for the week of Nov. 24–29, as guard JJ Vaughan was named Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Offensive Player of the Week and NCCAA DI Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while forward Johnny Whysong earned AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Vaughan was also recognized nationally as "Sniper of the Week" by NAIA Hoops Report for his elite 3-point shooting.
Vaughan delivered one of the most efficient scoring stretches of his CIU career, averaging 20.7 points across three games while shooting 13-of-22 from three-point range. His week was headlined by a 31-point outburst in CIU's 85–76 win over Tennessee Southern, where he went 7-of-11 from deep and finished 11-of-17 from the floor.
