COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's basketball delivered one of its most explosive offensive performances in program history Wednesday night, defeating Spartanburg Methodist 100–80 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action at the Moore Fitness Center. The win moves the Rams to 9–5 overall and 4–2 in the AAC.
The night was highlighted by a rare statistical milestone, as junior forward Johnny Whysong recorded the second triple-double in program history and the first in more than a decade, finishing with 10 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists along with three steals and two blocks. His performance helped CIU tie the school record for team assists in a single game with 30.
Three Rams scored 20 or more points. Jeffrey Clark, II posted a game-high 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while Will Kelly added 22 points, connecting on six three-pointers. JJ Vaughan supplied 20 points off the bench, hitting four threes and providing consistent scoring in both halves.
Connor Higgins added 10 points and seven rebounds, and James Davis chipped in six assists and three steals. CIU shot 51.4 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from three, and went a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. The Rams also controlled the paint with 42 points and scored 20 fast-break points.
CIU led 48–32 at halftime and stretched the margin to as many as 26 in the second half, maintaining command throughout the contest.
The Rams continue AAC play on Saturday, Dec. 13, traveling to Reinhardt University for a 4:00 p.m. ET matchup.
