Rams claim fourth straight AAC Tournament title with win over Reinhardt

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — CIU women's volleyball cemented its dominance in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 3–seeded Reinhardt (25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23) to capture the program's fourth consecutive AAC Tournament championship inside the MeadowView Marriott Convention Center.

The Rams (25-6) delivered their best defensive performance of the season, setting a program record with 19 total team blocks in the title match. Senior middle blocker Lydia Gustafson powered the effort with seven kills and 11 total blocks, while Eevy Bellar added four kills, three aces, and eight blocks. Mary Norwood recorded a team-high 12 kills to go with six block assists.

Katelynn Mundy finished with nine kills and two blocks, and Zcearia James added eight kills and two blocks. Setters Maria Ferreira and Macy Brooks combined for 37 assists, nine digs, and three service aces. Libero Kelcey Mangum anchored the back row with 20 digs.

After the match, CIU placed Mary Norwood, Macy Brooks, and Kelcey Mangum on the AAC All-Tournament Team, while Lydia Gustafson was named the AAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Head coach Katie Weiss praised her team's resolve, unity, and faith following the championship victory.

"I'm incredibly proud of our finish this season. From day one to today we played with heart, passion and energy. This team is united and selfless. We won against all odds tonight because we are fighters and we never give up. We have played all season for something bigger, to honor God in all we do and to give Him all the glory! I'm so grateful for this team and all that God has done in us!"

With the win, the Rams now turn their attention to the national stage. CIU will learn its NAIA Women's Volleyball Championship Opening Round destination on Monday, Nov. 17, when the NAIA Selection Show airs at 4 p.m. CT.
