SWANNANOA, N.C. — CIU women's volleyball continued its hot streak on Tuesday night, earning its sixth straight victory with a dominant sweep of Montreat (25-14, 25-14, 25-11) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The win marked the Rams' 10th consecutive victory over the Cavaliers.
CIU (11-5, 7-1 AAC) hit .271 as a team and held Montreat to a -.073 attack percentage, forcing 28 errors on 96 attempts. The Rams controlled the match from the start, recording double-digit kills in every set and hitting .290 during the second frame to take full control.
Zcearia James led the way with 10 kills and a .348 hitting percentage, while Katelynn Mundy and Mary Norwood each added six kills. Lydia Gustafson and Savannah Kelly were both highly efficient, tallying four kills apiece and hitting .800 on the night.
Skylar Dewhirst and Maria Ferreira combined for 18 assists, while Macy Brooks chipped in eight more to bring the Rams' total to 26. Libero Kelcey Mangum solidified the defense with 12 digs, helping CIU limit Montreat's offense throughout the match. CIU also finished with eight total team blocks compared to Montreat's three.
The Rams will look to keep their winning streak alive on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they travel to Milligan, Tenn., to face Milligan University at 11:00 a.m. ET.
