PIKEVILLE, Ky. — CIU women's soccer closed the regular season with a convincing 4-2 win over Pikeville on Saturday afternoon at Bob Amos Park. The win gives CIU (12-4-1, 9-3-1 AAC) their most wins in the regular season in program history and their best wining percentage in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play since the program joined the conference in 2018. On Saturday, the Rams set the tone early, netting three goals in the opening half to secure their ninth conference victory of the year.
Mazzie Leos opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing a setup from Lily Vengelis to give CIU the early edge. Just before halftime, the Rams struck twice in quick succession—first through Gabriella Hlaca off a Marisa Dill assist in the 41st minute, followed by Lily Jackson's solo effort two minutes later—to make it 3-0 at the break.
Lauren Jackson added to the lead in the 58th minute, converting from close range after a cross by Lohrane Boaventura. Pikeville scored twice in the second half, including a late penalty, but CIU's defense and goalkeepers Hailey Resetar and Taylor Bullock combined for four saves to close out the match.
CIU will host a quarterfinal match in the AAC Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 1. The time and opponent of that match are to be determined.
