PALM COAST, Fla. — CIU men's golf held steady on Tuesday at the NCCAA National Championship as senior Luke Hammond made program and tournament history with a record-breaking round at Hammock Beach Golf Resort.
Hammond fired a 7-under-par 65, tying the lowest 18-hole score in CIU program history and setting a new NCCAA National Championship record for the lowest single-round score. The standout round vaulted Hammond to the top of the individual leaderboard, as he now leads the field heading into Wednesday's final round.
His performance propelled the Rams to a team score of 295 (+7), improving 12 strokes from the opening round and keeping CIU firmly in fourth place overall with a 602 two-round total.
Behind Hammond, Andrew Haarlow shot a 75 (+3), Braydon Hileman followed with a 76 (+4), Santos Espinosa carded a 79 (+7), and Nate Caughman finished with an 81 (+9).
Cedarville University leads the team standings after two rounds at 588 (-7), followed by OUAZ (590, +1) and Wayland Baptist (593, +8).
